The municipality, which paid $130,000 for the house, has taken possession. In the motion, the home was identified as a good fit “due to its size, condition, and convenient location within the community, making it well-suited for medical housing purposes”. The reeve said there might be some work needed on it, but expects it to be ready for someone to move in shortly.
According to Prairie Mountain Health, a locum physician is on tap to help out at the Deloraine Clinic for an undetermined amount of time. The plan is for the person to be in place in February. They could become the first to use the new medical house.
McMechan said health care in the community is in fairly good shape, as the addition will bring them up to three physicians. However, he added the home is not just for doctors or for any specific time frame.
“It can be for any medical professionals,” he said. “There will be a timeline set up based on individual cases.”
In the end, the new domicile will help Deloraine-Winchester reach its long-term health care aims.
“Our file is to have our ER open 24/7.”
