Minister sees new lagoon as essential project
Building a lagoon might not be the most romantic infrastructure project, but in Boissevain-Morton it is long awaited and seriously needed.
Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard was in town on Tuesday, September 8 to break ground on the lagoon construction. Located on the old site southwest of town, practical work began this summer after a lot of planning and some frustrating periods. Simard recognized the importance of the project.
“These projects are huge for rural Manitoba communities,” Simard stated. “They are important to help towns like Boissevain grow into the future.”
The work on the new lagoon is progressing, although weather might be slowing things down presently. The municipality is handling the project in an unusual way. When they put out tenders earlier in 2026, they found the estimates came in $2 million over the $10 million budget. They decided they would be their own general contractors and hired sub-contractors like Dougall Excavating, Power Baron and Copperman to do the work. Engineers and the Water Services Board have been on and off site while the work has been ongoing.
