An exciting community partnership has formed for phase two, with the Boissevain Pickleball Association. Elaine Vandoorne and Kathy Wilkinson are working to co-ordinate the funds needed (approximately $22,000) to add two pickleball courts alongside the basketball court, creating a true multi-sport court for our community.
To create the court space, a sport surface coating will be applied over the existing asphalt, once the cracks and low spots have been filled, and any high spots have been ground down. Nets will be added and lines will be painted on the courts.
Approximate cost for phase two is $96,000. Between the two groups, $71,254 has been raised for this community project. By securing the funds to build the basketball and pickleball courts at the same time, building costs will be significantly reduced, and more recreational options will be brought to our community.
The addition of a basketball court of this size and pickleball courts through phase two will have numerous benefits to the members of our community. Students will use the court spaces during the school day for phys ed classes, breaks and spares. After school, on the weekends and throughout the summer the courts will be open to the public, just as with the playground. Encouraging community members and visitors to enjoy a game of pickleball with friends, practice their three-pointer on their own, or get a game of pick-up going. The bleachers will be a welcoming spot to socialize and cheer on friends during a game.
Students have been working hard at fundraising over the last couple of years to make this space a reality. Adding an accessible basketball and pickleball court space to our community will be another step towards investing in our youth and in the sustainability of Boissevain-Morton.
