McMechan thanked the previous council for all the work done to get the pool replacement project in motion.
“We have relied heavily on donations for this project. The community has really pulled together with many clubs hosting fundraisers,” said McMechan.
He gave recognition to those who have supported the project including: Deloraine Club 2000, Pool Penny Pinchers, Community 1/2 section project, Ridin’ The Pine, Royals Ball and Hockey clubs, Dand 4-H Club, Deloraine Fire Department, Recotourism Team, local personal donations and kids lemonade and vegetable stands.
“We would also like to recognize Meighen Haddad LLP and Warren Barber who donated his expertise and time, Western Recreation for their construction and our major donor Tundra Oil & Gas,” he added.
The old pool closed last year because of structural inegrity issues. The estimated cost of the new aquatic centre is $2.2 million.
