As well, they have hired Heather Garden of Boissevain as the new facility manager. Heide said she has a wealth of experience, including being a part of the Lady of the Lake and the Station in Boissevain as well as within the Co-op system. She began orientation this week, and the two will begin in their new positions on June 1.

Cherry Creek Place took a great deal of dedication from a number of people to get off the ground. It started nearly a decade ago when people began looking into replacing Westview Lodge. In the end, a committee began to look at something new, a home for seniors who did not need care, but could use amenities such as meals. A site next to the Boissevain Health Centre was found, money was raised and the building was constructed during a pandemic. Residents began moving in during the summer of 2021.

The success story of Cherry Creek continues. Heide said they were able to add three new board members recently. Victoria Neufeld, Lara Maxwell and Elaine Vandoorne are now on board.

“It’s great. They bring new ideas, fresh ideas to the board.”

There are 35 suites in the facility, with Heide saying there are only two open at present, and they are still moving people in and looking for tenants. Apart from a little maintenance here or there, everything is finished, and they are waiting for their landscaping to continue to green up for the year. Overall, everything has been going well. Heide thanked Rickard for the fine job she did and looks forward to the future.

“The people here are enjoying their new home,” he said, “and we are keeping everything moving. We have had lots of compliments from people from outside saying ‘wow, this is a wonderful building for the size of Boissevain.’ This has been great for the community.”
