Merchant sidewalk sales, face painting, children’s games, a free matinee at the theatre, bingo, beer garden and live artist demos were a few more of the events held at Street Fest. Tents holding different activities helped produce a strong, carnival atmosphere. Perkins said by the end of the Crossfyre performance in the cool, wee hours of the evening, there were still around 100 people on the street.
“Overall event numbers are estimated to be higher than last year and noting that this year’s event spanned well over 12 hours, we are pleased with the turnout. In addition to the Boissevain area, we also had visitors from several different components who came to town for the festivities on Saturday as well as the town-wide garage sales. Personally, I have never seen downtown Boissevain as busy as it was on Saturday afternoon in my eight years here in town - it was wonderful to see and so many people shared those same sentiments.”
Perkins added there is a lot of behind the scenes work for an event of this magnitude and she gave a shout out to the businesses and organizations who contributed to it, as well as the many volunteers who made all of the activities happen. She said the Street Fest committee would be meeting next week to wrap up and discuss the future of the event.
