They stayed on the scene until about 1:00pm. They had asked municipal employees for road closed signs as there were a number of people coming in to view what had happened and with the soft roads in the area, they made the decision to close certain roads to allow CP to do repair work.
At about 7:35am, RCMP responded to the incident. The Boissevain detachment was on the scene briefly, but CP police came quickly and took over the investigation.
The CP began work almost immediately. During the day and into the evening, a vast number of trucks and heavy equipment came into Boissevain, and they were involved in clearing cars and cleaning up the grain spillage. This continued through the week, with work also being done on the Aikman Street crossing.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. Boissevain-Morton asked residents to avoid the Aikman Street crossing as well as Aikman Street south of the railway to Ducker Street and South Railway east of the United Church while work is ongoing.
